Chapter by Chapter take 1.3
I write using a desktop at home, a laptop when on the move and I have time to power it up, and two different PDAs each depending on where and what I am doing at the time.
Txt is a decent cross-platform format but it does not let me use italics or bold. There are conventions out there like _car_ to emphasize words but it is limited.

Doc is used by word and is accepted by a lot of programs but a lot of programs "import" the doc file and change things. I have that issue between the Laptop Word, Desktop word 2002 and one of my PDA that reads Word '97.

That is why I started using RTF. Italics, Bold and multiple fonts in a cross platform format. :-)

I wrote the author of ChapterbyChapter, Sébastien Berthet, and mentioned that I liked his program but as I write using 4 different devices it would be nice if he had RTF support.
I wrote the author Tuesday. Saturday the author sent me an email stating that his program now supports RTF.

Note that yWriter that I had been using also supports RTF but it breaks them up and labels them as RTF_0019.rtf and RTF_0010.rtf so finding the chapter I wanted to access was a bit of a game. Open this file then that file.

WriteWay Pro is a very nice program but it uses it's own format so to move between platforms you export and then before you can use it again you have to import. I have had some issues importing files.

BookWriter, RoughDraft and several others are nice programs also but each caused different issues. Each cost a bit of money. So it is very nice to find a FREE front-end for a program I already have.

A nice thing about RTF is that Word does not try to bloat it up. And RTF can be converted to almost any format with different tools.

Chapter by Chapter is actually a front-end for Word. You open it and it lists the files that are part of THIS book. To edit files it opens Word. Any changes in the file and it notes that with a star by the file name. As you close each chapter/scene it has MSWord count the words in the file and will display that if you wish.

If you are sending the story to an editor or two (and you should be :-) you can choose to have CbC output all the individual files as one big one.

The ultimate companion to Microsoft Word for novel writers

A step by step on how to use the program in 13 pictures. Step by Step

For those writers that Note card their work this program integrates SuperNoteCard files.

It is pretty much exactly what I have been looking for. You might like it too.
